Towards a method for understanding the meanings of the Holy Qur’an by analysing its verses according to the language of the Arabs and their methods of speaking, as Arabs understood them at the time of the revelation of the Qur’an.

(Note: In brackets are sub-matters or meanings derived from the general meanings of the verse in the light of linguistic analysis, and red colour is used to distinguish it from the meaning in the light of linguistic analysis)

Al-Baqara 62

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ وَٱلصَّٰبِ‍ِٔينَ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحٗا فَلَهُمۡ أَجۡرُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُونَ ٦٢

The meaning in the light of linguistic analysis:

Pay attention:

Those who have shown belief in Allah, and Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) is the messenger of Allah and have shown submission and acceptance to what Allah has revealed to his messenger of laws and rules, without achieving that belief in their heart.

Those referred to as “Haadu” (this is a name for all tribes of Israel, who returned from the Babylonian captivity to Jerusalem and some of them went to the land of Hijaz), are those who have shown belief in Allah, and his prophets, and have shown submission and acceptance to what Allah has revealed to his prophets, without achieving that belief in their heart.

Those referred to as “Nasara” (this is a name for all Jesus’s followers who believed in him and supported him against those who disbelieved and harmed him, and they believed in what he brought of laws and rules), are those who have shown belief in Allah and his prophet Jesus, and have shown belief in what he brought of laws and rules in which he corrected the distorted laws and beliefs that Jews had falsely claimed as being revealed by Allah to Moses, and have shown submission and acceptance to what Allah has revealed to his messenger of laws and rules, without achieving that belief in their heart.

And those referred to as “Sabian” (this is a name for a religious group who believe in several prophets including Noah, Ibrahim, Zakaria and Yahya) are those who have shown belief in Allah and his prophets, and have shown submission and acceptance to what Allah has revealed to his prophets, without achieving that belief in their heart.

That is: those who believe in Allah as one God, with achieving that belief in their heart, without doubt or suspicion (of those referred to as Believers, “Haadu”, “Nasara” and “Sabian”), and believe in the Judgment day; the day of reckoning and retribution, with achieving that belief in their heart, without doubt or suspicion (of those referred to as Believers, “Haadu”, “Nasara” and “Sabian”), and they did a deed that is both beneficial and appropriate for people with no corruption (of those referred to as Believers, “Haadu”, “Nasara” and “Sabian”), they have their reward from their Lord on the day of reckoning and retribution, for their belief, and for doing a deed that is both beneficial and appropriate for people with no corruption, and there is no fear for them of torment from their Lord in the afterlife, nor are they affected with agony and sorrow in the worldly life and the hereafter (The indefinite noun “deed” in the verse, denotes every good work or deed that has been done for people, and this meaning includes all those who have provided humanity with useful and beneficial works, whether they are Muslims, Jews, Christians, or Sabians, if they believe in Allah as one God without doubt or suspicion, and believe in the Judgment day, the day of reckoning and retribution, without doubt and suspicion, they have their reward from their Lord on the day of reckoning and retribution, and there is no fear for them of torment from their Lord in the afterlife, nor are they affected with agony and sorrow in the worldly life and the hereafter).
